Let’s Go To ... Valles Marineris, the largest canyon system in the entire solar system. 4,000 km (2,500 miles) in length and up to 7 km (4.5 miles) deep, it was discovered during the Mariner 9 mission in 1971, and named after that pioneering spacecraft. This prodigious crack in the Martian crust likely formed billions of years ago in tandem with the volcanoes in the nearby Tharsis region.

In the view of Derek the Stargazer ... when I hold this mug, it feels like I have something precious in my hands, something that was picked up from the surface of another planet (!) and transported across the vast expanse of space solely for my benefit and enjoyment. Remember, this is a smaller mug with an 11 oz capacity, close to the capacity of a Starbucks “Tall” drink. This mug is dishwasher safe, but I recommend hand washing whenever possible to preserve the priceless Martian snapshot for the longest possible time. It is also microwave safe.
